I wanted to make another crayon wax art canvas but longer than the first so I could get the full effect of the little drips. So I went to A.C. Moore and their canvas was on sale for 50% off YAY!
This is what I ended up with. The drips didn’t quite go as far as I wanted and while I was trying to figure out what to do with the rest of the canvas I thought the drips looked most like rain! So I drew a little lady with an umbrella with charcoal and melted the drips again so that it would run down the umbrella. Let me know what you think!
Her foot’s a little dark so I might go back over the whole thing and make it darker. We’ll see.
Oh I like this one!! I wasn’t sure about the “just crayon” one but this is pretty!
BTW about half way finished with your doily!
It’s a lot lighter than the other and the drips are more pronounced. I think the first one I did was just too short so I’m glad I did another 🙂
AH! SLOW DOWN! I’ve been too busy packing up and fiddle farting around to get started on your candles. I should get on that though because if I don’t finish them before I move I probably won’t be able to get them to you until Thanksgiving or something >.<!
How is your Christmas gift coming along? Did you finish because I want to see it! 😛
Go to my blog, it’s posted there. Oh don’t worry about finishing the candles, you can send them to me for Christmas, LOL!
hey would you sell your art? i am interested in the one with umbrella, horwate@hotmail.com
I would like to purchase, email me horwate@hotmail.com
That’s amazing! Congratulations on such an amazing artwork. I love the idea. 🙂 I’ve credited you and added your image to the tumblr community, I needed to share it’s awesomeness!

How did you make it so the melted wax didn’t blur together?
Oh wow! That’s so cool! :O
-Eliabeth (Ermisenda’s coauthor) I realize she already commented, but I just had to say something too. That’s brilliant.
I just used a heat gun and the crayons dripped down individually. There is an area which is more fully in color where the wax did blur together a little bit but it separated itself out again into drips. Thanks for all the comments guys! I’m glad you like it. I think I’ve been convinced to start my etsy shop back up again… whenever I get enough time! I promise I haven’t forgotten about this blog, being a grad student is more hectic than I originally thought.
I love this – I saw it on pinterest, but the link wasn’t directly to you… It took a bit of searching, but I found you 🙂
I created a new pin that links here.
Thanks for sharing this – it is such a great and fresh take on an idea that I’ve seen so many times before!
I love the umbrella crayon art….. some friends and I have been playing with some different ideas. We are in aw of how you got the crayons to run over the umbrella. Nearest I can tell from reading your description, you melted it, drew the picture, and remelted it. Did you do anything specific to get it to run over the umbrella the way you did, or was it just the luck of how it ran?
Thanks everyone! I was able to get the crayon to run down the umbrella by taping up a piece of cardboard in a curve at first but the heat gun made the tape fall off so it eventually stopped working. This is when I took crayon shavings and sprinkled them over the edge and along the ridges on the umbrella and then melted.
I also wasn’t apparently signed in when I posted this >.< Sorry guys!
I think it looks really cool!
So… failblog.com has taken your photo and watermarked it and placed it on their site, you can see it here, http://failblog.org/2011/12/14/epic-win-photos-win-crayon-art-win/
Wow I really enjoy this, I’d be interested in purchasing it if possible, my walls are bare and i’ve never found anything worth putting on them until now! Send me an email if interested.
By the way, I found this via failblog, then after enough googling I found it via Pinterest. I just posted a direct link to your blog on failblog, I hope that’s ok, everyone posted positive reviews asking about it.
I would love to purchase one with the girl/umbrella. Is that possible? I have the perfect spot for it already!!
Yes! Visit my etsy shop at http://www.etsy.com/shop/ccasto7, I’m taking custom orders over Christmas break. The girl/umbrella ones I have here are pretty big but I’m going to try to make a smaller one and see how it turns out.
Oh yay you really are the maker of this picture, I was worried it was going to be a spammy virus maker. I feel quite honoured that you popped by. Your picture is really really beautiful and deserves all the pinterest fame it is getting x
